Your Hair Transplant Aftercare Guide
Aftercare is just as important as the procedure itself for the success of a hair transplant. Knowing what to do and what to avoid after a hair transplant, as well as being aware of the possible risks and side effects, will help you have a faster and more comfortable healing process.
At Medidora, you will receive the advice, care, and support you need to achieve the best possible results.
Free Hair AnalysisSleep After Hair Transplant
One of the most important things to pay attention to after a hair transplant is your sleeping position. An incorrect position can damage the transplanted hair follicles and compromise the success of the operation.
After the hair transplant, you must lie on your back with your head raised at least 45 degrees for the first 10 days. This position prevents the transplanted area from coming into contact with the pillow or bed, thus protecting it from possible friction, pressure points, or impact. To keep your head upright and increase your sleeping comfort, you can use the neck pillow we provide.
Following this simple sleep rule is one of the most effective ways to ensure the success of your surgery.
Washing Hair After Hair Transplant
Washing your hair after a hair transplant is one of the most important steps of the treatment. Carefully removing dried blood and crusts after the procedure ensures that the hair roots can breathe and heal faster. This also reduces the risk of infection.
Your first hair wash at Medidora will take place the day after your treatment at the clinic. We will give you detailed recommendations on how to wash your hair properly and provide you with medicated shampoo and lotion.
During the first 15 days after the hair transplant, it is important that you wash your hair once a day. Once all the crusts have fallen off, you can return to your normal hair washing routine.
Recovery After Hair Transplant
After the hair transplant, redness, bruising, burning, slight bleeding, and pain may occur in the donor and recipient areas. These are a natural part of the healing process and usually disappear on their own after a few days.
After a hair transplant, swelling often occurs in the forehead and eye area in the first few days after the procedure. These slowly subside within a week. Applying a cold compress to the eyebrow area helps to reduce swelling.
Itching and scabbing after a hair transplant are signs of healing. This can take up to two weeks. During this time, you should avoid scratching the transplant area and tearing off the scabs.
Hair Care After Hair Transplant
To avoid damaging the transplanted hair follicles, you should not brush, comb, or cut your hair for the first 3-4 weeks after treatment. Avoid hair styling products such as hair gel, hairspray, and wax.
After a hair transplant, it is important to wait until the scalp has completely healed before having your hair cut. If you would like to have your hair cut, you can do so after one month using scissors. After 4 months, you can use an electric razor.
You should refrain from using a hairdryer for the first 6 months. Heat can damage your hair follicles. After that, you can use the appliance on a low setting. We recommend that you wait 4 to 6 months before dyeing your hair.
Hair Loss After Hair Transplant
Hair loss after a hair transplant, also known as “shock loss,” is common. This usually occurs 2 to 8 weeks after the procedure. Although it may seem alarming, this is a completely natural process. The hair follicles are not damaged.
Shock loss is a natural reaction of the body to the stress and trauma caused by hair transplants, causing the hair follicles to enter a resting phase. Fortunately, this is a temporary condition, and from the third month onwards, the hair that has fallen out will begin to grow back.
The hair loss process varies from person to person. Some people experience it more strongly, others to a lesser extent. During this time, it is important to be patient and strictly follow the aftercare recommendations.
Results After Hair Transplant
The process following a hair transplant requires patience, but at the end of it all, you can look forward to a unique journey that will result in fuller, healthier hair. The process may be slow, but it is worth the wait.
The first results are visible after the healing of the scalp and the natural hair loss from the third month onwards. During this time, the hair may appear thin and fine, but over time it will become thicker and stronger. The results become visible from the sixth month onwards. The final results will be visible within 12 to 15 months.
